This is what I call the defacto PokerStars hand. I see this type of hand all the time. While you probably thought you were ahead the whole time, those trips were well hidden from you. When PokerStars sees that someone with the best hand (albeit lower stack) goes all-in, that triggers the PokerStars effect whereby the cards that will get the most action and spread around the most money will come up on the turn and river.
The whole key to avoiding the PStars effect is to avoid going all-in. Bet all but a nickel and you'll be fine. I see the most rivered hands go to the hand that is behind when the best hand is all-in before the river. It is almost predictable.
Either way, grats on the nice hand. A very nice take down.
